MEET THE BOARD of United Cerebral Palsy Association of Greater IN.
TERRI CZAJKA, Board President Terri is an attorney with Ice Miller and a resident of Indianapolis. She has served on the Board of UCPAGI since 1995 and as its president since 2006. Terri is one of those community leaders who, with no personal connection to disability, has decided to devote a significant amount of her time to a not-for-profit organization like UCPAGI.
MIKE FODDRILL, Board Vice-President and Program Committee Chair Mike is one of the youngest members of the UCPAGI Board and the only one who was first a client of the agency. In 1996, Mike was the first recipient of UCPAGI’s Book-Coleman Scholarship. When he completed his Bachelor’s degree, Mike came back to Indianapolis and is now a contracted employee of the Indiana Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities. Most recently, Mike has been the coordinator of the Council’s Partners in Policymaking program designed to train individuals with disabilities to be leaders in their communities. Mike joined the UCPAGI Board in 2007.
BART BOOK, Board Secretary and Finance Committee Member Bart represents the third generation of his family to volunteer their time and support to UCPAGI. His grandparents were founding board members and provided a portion of the funding for the agency’s annual scholarship awards. A Vice President with Colliers Turley Martin Tucker real estate firm in Indianapolis, Bart has played a major role in UCPAGI’s relocation and fund-raising efforts throughout the years. Bart served for many years as a judge of the scholarship awards and became a member of the UCPAGI Board in 2003.
BILL STRANGE, Board Treasurer and Finance Committee Chair Bill joined the UCPAGI Board in 2003 and, one year later, became our Board Treasurer. A CPA with Brightpoint, Bill lives in Avon and travels the world because of his job. Nonetheless, he makes time to assist the agency Executive Director in monitoring the financial affairs of the agency and to supervise contracted accounting and auditing services. NANCEY JO ACREE, Board and Program Committee Member Since 1996, Nancey Jo has been a valued member of our Board and Program Committee. With her trusted canine companion of 7 years, E-Ore, Nancey Jo’s attendance and participation in all Board activities is exemplary and, in March 2007, she will be honored with UCPAGI’s W. Thomas Schemmel CHARACTER Award. A retired Clinical Associate at Larue Carter Hospital, Nancy is also a graduate of the Partners in Policymaking Program and active with the Canine Companions for Independence organization.
MIKE GRINDSTAFF, Board and Program Committee Member Mike joined UCPAGI’s Board in 2003 but has had a longer history with the agency as the father of Jacob, a client of UCPAGI since 2000. Mike began his volunteer involvement with UCPAGI as an Ardath Burhart Leadership intern with the encouragement of his employer, Walker Research. With his help, UCPAGI was granted an award from the Walker Family Foundation in 2003 for camperships to Camp Riley for children with cerebral palsy throughout the state.
MAUREEN SCHULZ, Board and Fund Development Committee Member Maureen served for many years as the nurse (now retired) at the Cerebral Palsy Clinic at Riley Hospital for Children. But she enjoys fund-raising almost as much as she enjoyed her occupation. Since 1999, Maureen has been the leader of our efforts to secure prizes and auction items for each of our annual fund-raising events. She and her husband, Kenny, also help out physically at our Awards Luncheon and Women’s Golf Classic.
SARAH SHAUGHNESSY, Board Member and Fund Development Committee Chair Sarah played in our 2003 Women’s Golf Classic as a member of her then-employer’s team…who also happened to be our accountants. She enjoyed herself so much, she asked how she could help…in 2004, she joined our Board and in 2005, she became chair of the committee that organizes the golf event. Now a Vice President of the Indiana CPA Society, Sarah leads our effort to meet the increasing need for self-sufficiency through fund-raising. REX SHERA, Board and Finance Committee Member Rex is, currently, the longest-serving member of our Board – he joined in 1992 and quickly became the Treasurer of the Board. He has subsequently served as Chair of the Finance Committee, Vice-President and President of the Board. Rex has helped to steer us through financial reporting changes, accounting and audit turn-over’s and resource up’s and down’s. A CPA with Ernst & Young, Rex was honored in 2004 with the UCPAGI Anita Slominski CARING Award.
LEE WHITE, Board and Fund Development Committee Member One day, in 1994, Lee walked into the UCPAGI Executive Director’s office and asked how he could help. As a Board member, former chair and now member of the Fund Development Committee, he hasn’t stopped helping since that day. With no personal experience with disability, Lee has been a tireless promoter of the agency. He created our fund-raising committee and each of the events that have supported our mission over the last 13 years. In 1998, he was the recipient of the UCPAGI Theresa Goodman CONTRIBUTION Award. Lee is Vice President of Sales for Mainscape Landscaping Services.
